Deciphering the Code

The official documents of the Roman Catholic Church, including recent publications, often are written in language that is reminiscent of some bygone era. Sentences at times abound with punctuation marks and seem to run on forever. Phraseology tends to be stodgy and given to hyperbole. To help readers learn to cut through the pompous verbiage and discover the meaning hidden in the pronouncements that issue forth from Rome, I shall translate a part of a papal bull into the vernacular.

On 29 June 1868, Pope Pius IX published the bull Aeterni Patris, calling Catholic prelates to a general council in the Vatican. The first session of the First Vatican Council was convened in St Peter's basilica on December 8, 1869, in the presence and under the presidency of Pope Pius IX. The fourth session (July 18, 1870) created the First Dogmatic Constitution on the Church of Christ. Chapter 3 of that constitution proclaimed the power and character of the Roman pontiff.

THE CONSTITUTION SAYS:

'And so, supported by the clear witness of holy scripture, and adhering to the manifest and explicit decrees both of our predecessors the Roman pontiffs and of general councils, we promulgate anew the definition of the ecumenical council of Florence , which must be believed by all faithful Christians, namely that &e'apostolic see and the Roman pontiff hold a world-wide primacy, and that the Roman pontiff is the successor of blessed Peter, the prince of the apostles, true vicar of Christ, head of the whole church and father and teacher of all christian people. To him, in blessed Peter, full power has been given by our lord Jesus Christ to tend, rule and govern the universal church. All this is to be found in the acts of the ecumenical councils and the sacred canons.

RON TRANSLATES:

“Based upon our 'special” understanding of Scripture, and sticking with what Catholic bosses and their stooges said before, we are telling you one more time what the old bosses said at Florence in 1441 -- that the Roman pope is the capo de tutti capi and that he and his office are in charge. If you don't get behind this, you ain't no Christian, cuz outside the RCC there is no salvation (Extra Ecclesiam Nulla Salus). This is true cuz RCC wiseguys in the old days said it is true.”

THE CONSTITUTION SAYS:

“Wherefore we teach and declare that, by divine ordinance, the Roman church possesses a pre-eminence of ordinary power over every other church, and that this jurisdictional power of the Roman pontiff is both episcopal and immediate. Both clergy and faithful, of whatever rite and dignity, both singly and collectively, are bound to submit to this power by the duty of hierarchical subordination and true obedience, and this not only in matters concerning faith and morals, but also in those which regard the discipline and government of the church throughout the world.”

RON TRANSLATES:

“So, because the boss says so, the RCC runs the religion business, and the Capo de tutti capi (pope) is the guy in charge. Doesn't matter what gang you are connected with, the pope is boss. Everybody in the religion business, wiseguys and citizens, gotta go along with this.”

THE CONSTITUTION SAYS:

“In this way, by unity with the Roman pontiff in communion and in profession of the same faith, the church of Christ becomes one flock under one supreme shepherd”

RON TRANSLATES:

“By going along with the Capo de tutti capi, we can get along.”

THE CONSTITUTION SAYS:

“This' is the teaching of the catholic truth, and no one can depart from it 'without endangering his faith and salvation.

RON TRANSLATES:

“This is true because the RCC says it is true. If you don't go along, expect to get fitted for a pair of cement overshoes.”

THE CONSTITUTION SAYS:

“This power of the supreme pontiff by no means detracts from that ordinary and immediate power of episcopal jurisdiction, by which bishops, who have succeeded to the place of the apostles by appointment of the holy Spirit, tend and govern individually the particular flocks which have been assigned to them. On the contrary, this power of theirs is asserted, supported and defended by the supreme and universal pastor; for St Gregory the Great says: “My honour is the honour of the whole church. My honour is the steadfast strength of my brethren. Then do I receive true honour, when it is denied to none of those to whom honour is due.”

RON TRANSLATES:

“The underbosses run their own territories any way they want, so long as they respect the Capo de tutti capi.

THE CONSTITUTION SAYS:

“Furthermore, it follows from that supreme power which the Roman pontiff has in governing the whole church, that he has the right, in the performance of this office of his, to communicate freely with the pastors and flocks of the entire church, so that they may be taught and guided by him in the way of salvation.

RON TRANSLATES:

“The Capo de tuti capi has a big gang and a lot of heavy hitters. You get out of line and he'll straighten you out.”

THE CONSTITUTION SAYS:

“And therefore we condemn and reject the opinions of those who hold that this communication of the supreme head with pastors and flocks may be lawfully obstructed; or that it should be dependent on the civil power, which leads them to maintain that what is determined by the apostolic see or by its authority concerning the government of the church, has no force or effect unless it is confirmed by the agreement of the civil authority.

RON TRANSLATES:

The Capo de tutti capi is the boss. No one disrespects him -- not the Feds, not the local cops - unless he says so.''

THE CONSTITUTION SAYS:

“Since the Roman pontiff, by the divine right of the apostolic primacy, governs the whole church, we likewise teach and declare that he is the supreme judge of the faithful, and that in all cases which fall under ecclesiastical jurisdiction recourse may be had to his judgment. The sentence of the apostolic see (than which there is no higher authority) is not subject to revision by anyone, nor may anyone lawfully pass judgment thereupon. And so they stray from the genuine path of truth who maintain that it is lawful to appeal from the judgments of the Roman pontiffs to an ecumenical council as if this were an authority superior to the Roman pontiff.

RON TRANSLATES:

“Since the capo de tutti capi runs the religion business, his gang wants everybody to know that his word is law. What he says goes.”

THE CONSTITUTION SAYS:

“So, then, if anyone says that the Roman pontiff has merely an office of supervision and guidance, and not the full and supreme power of jurisdiction over the whole church, and this not only in matters of faith and morals, but also in those which concern the discipline and government of the church dispersed throughout the whole world; or that he has only the principal part, but not the absolute fullness, of this supreme power; or that this power of his is not ordinary and immediate both over all and each of the churches and over all and each of the pastors and faithful: let him be anathema.

RON TRANSLATES:

“Anybody who doesn't agree that the pope is the big boss is gonna get whacked.”

What a way to run a business. Either submit to the Roman pope and the yoke of the Roman Catholic Church, or go to Hell. This reminds me of that movie where a guy who did not go along with the capo de tutti capi woke up to find a bloody horse's head in his bed.

Rome says submit to the pope or else. Scripture says:

Hebrews 4:14-16, "Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need."

John 3:17-19, “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

Please notice that the above Scriptures do not mention, a pope, a Catholic Church or amediatrix Rome calls Mary.

Hosea 13:4 Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.
